A Brief from the School

 

This year will see a current trend in the floral industry towards the tropical theme. Moving away from flowers in the cool temperate areas, the artistic culture and appreciation is towards local and flowers and foliage and those from the neighboring tropical regions. Orchids from our Singapore Garden City will again live up to their beauty and creativity at the coming Singapore Garden Festival in July 2008. Once more, the school will participate actively in design competitions, flower demonstrations, floral displays and decorative booths, promoting and enhancing floriculture and the passion for flowers for school members and the public. The upgrading of floral skills and sharing of floral experiences, another two main objectives of the school, will be manifested with the emergence and conducting of the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) floral training courses in 2008. The School contributed to the development and endorsement of the Training Competency Framework, as led by the Workforce Development Agency (WDA). This year is also the year of the Olympics in Beijing in August. The School is the one of the foreign floral organization invited to help advise in the Beijing Olympics flower designs for hand bouquets to be created and awarded to the winners. The world will appreciate the universal message of love and beauty through the constant displays of flowers with winners on television, the Internet, video-clips, blogs, etc.

 

The School is highly appreciative of the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) for its relentless support of the local floral industry in the face of fierce inevitable competition from globalization and regionalization.
